Good, but needs a few things

This is a one-of-a-kind app and it is very close to being outstanding. I drive road rallies with the various sports car clubs in the area. They provide a route, you drive it. It works, but following printed directions is awful, and it can be hard to know when you’ve made a wrong turn. So I was very excited about NewRoute. Every other nav app I have tried wants to give you a route to take. NewRoute lets you define your route. That is what I’m after.

It is a good app, but it needs a few things to be excellent. First, the screen shuts off if you don’t poke it every now and again. Taking my attention off the road to wake up the phone (and punch in a pass code) is not very safe. I usually have a navigator, but still, this isn’t a feature, and it should be easy to change.

Also, the app should give a warning about a turn coming up. That would let me keep my focus on the road. Waze does this, so I know it is possible.

Letting you know when you’ve left the route would also be a very useful feature.

Lots of driving clubs will be all over this if these changes go in.
